MEETING THE CHALLENGE

Poverty in India is still a great challenge, despite an impressive economic growth in the nation. More than 600 million people in the nation still live on less than two dollars a day (the British government claims the figure is closer to 900 million). Regardless of what the actual figure is, it represents a large number of people.

The reality is that there are no simplistic solutions to poverty. Lives are changed one person at a time, one family at a time, one community at a time. The people who constitute the ‘poor of the poor’ will never be able to “pull themselves out with their own boot-straps”. Empowering the individuals & communities through programs such as education, health, vocational trainings, entrepreneurship & income generation is the only way out of the circle of poverty and break this bondage to establish a better future.
